Gratitude and Growth: A Reflection on Thanksgiving and New Beginnings
This Thanksgiving, my heart is full.
It’s been a whirlwind of a year—closing on our practice, traveling to Uganda, and forming a new team. Each step has brought lessons, blessings, and a deeper appreciation for the life we’re building here in Centennial.
Our recent trip to Uganda shifted something in me. Observing the joy and resilience of people there, I realized how much I’ve taken for granted. The children were thrilled with simple human interaction—hugs, smiles, attention. There was no concept of “socially awkward” or “social distancing.” Connection was celebrated, cherished, and pure.
It made me reflect on how we sometimes let our blessings slip by unnoticed. Even with so much, we often find ourselves with less faith, less joy, and less trust in God than those with far less. This trip left me with a deeper desire not to waste the privilege we have but to use it with gratitude and purpose.
Building Community in Centennial
Coming home to Centennial feels like stepping back into a warm embrace. This community is truly something special. From patients who’ve shared their life stories to the friendly energy of the Denver Tech Center, I’m constantly reminded of how lucky we are to be here. Our building neighbors treat us like family, and the stunning surrounding areas make every day feel like an adventure.
This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for the kindness we’ve received as we’ve settled in. It’s a privilege to care for the smiles of such an incredible community.
Pickleball, Connection, and a Little Fun
Speaking of community, we hosted our first-ever community event: Pickleball Event for Dentists at Epic Pickleball in Littleton. Pickleball is more than just a game—it’s a way to bring people together, inspire movement, and share some laughs.
Whether a pickleball veteran (ahem *Dr. M and Nikki and, my wife!) or have never picked up a paddle, we all had a ton of fun. We provided professional coaching for the newbies, and delicious bites were provide by Renegade Burrito (shoutout to Tiffani) and sponsored by Dentsply (thank you!).
If you missed this event, no worries— I sucked at promoting it. I will do better next time. You can catch the recap video (coming soon!). Sign up to keep an eye out for our next one.
A Special First Christmas as a Team
As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but feel both nervous and excited. This is our first Christmas as a team—likely the smallest size our team will ever be—and that makes it even more special. It’s a time for making memories, celebrating milestones, and looking forward to what’s ahead.
When I think about Christmas, I’m reminded that everything starts small. Seeds grow into trees that bear fruit, and teams grow into something lasting and meaningful throughout stages of their life and career. This year, we’ve faced fun challenges and big victories together, and I couldn’t be prouder of how we’ve handled it all.
Check out the Mugs!
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we step into the new year, I’m filled with anticipation. Practice ownership has opened up so many opportunities for meaningful conversations with patients and connections with other dentists in the area. I’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025.
Closing Thoughts
To my incredible team—thank you for your hard work, creativity, and showing up every day with dedication and heart. To my wife and family—thank you for your unwavering support and love. And to God—thank you for the grace to be in this moment and for the blessings that sustain us every day.
This Christmas, if you’re looking for something special and meaningful connection, give the Christmas service at Flatirons Church a visit. (You can catch it on Youtube as well). If you’re needing some beautiful music, warm lights, and great company- it’s life changing 🙂
Here’s to finishing 2024 strong and stepping into 2025 with gratitude, faith, and excitement for what’s ahead.
With gratitude,
Jason
